Behind My PR Journey: Communication, Creativity and Connection

Public relations is about more than just delivering a message. To me, it is about building relationships, understanding people, and finding the best way to connect an organization with its people. I am a communicator who values creativity, leadership, confidence, and meaningful relationships. My experiences at the University of Oklahoma have allowed me to strengthen those qualities and develop a better understanding of how important communication can influence the way people think, feel, and respond.

Building My PR Skills

I have a background in relations and that has helped me build skills in writing, strategic communication, digital media, research and understanding different audiences. I have also gained experience creating content and thinking about how messages should change depending on the audience and platform.

Digital marketing has also helped me expand the way I think about communication. Social media and other digital platforms give organizations the opportunity to interact directly with their audiences. They also make it important to think carefully about every message being shared. I enjoy learning how communication, branding and digital media can work together to create a relationship, between an organization and the people it wants to reach.

Why I Chose Public Relations

One of the things I enjoy most about relations is that public relations combines several of my interests. I have always enjoyed communicating with others being creative and building relationships. Public relations gives me the opportunity to use all of those skills while also thinking strategically.

I also like that there is not always one way to communicate a message. Different situations require approaches and PR professionals have to understand their audiences before deciding how to respond. Whether it involves media, branding, writing or reputation management communication choices can influence how people view an organization. That challenge is one of the things that makes PR interesting to me.

What Motivates Me

What drives me the most is keeping on improving skills that I can use throughout my career. I want to become a writer, communicator and leader while learning from a variety of people and organisations and I see every new project as a chance to sharpen my skills.

I am also curious about how the skills I built in relations can fit into other professional fields. Knowing how to read an audience to speak clearly and to build trust are valuable, in any job and I enjoy applying those skills wherever I go.

As I keep gaining experience I want to push myself with chances that let me communicate well solve problems and work with others while continuing to grow my skills and apply them in challenging ways.

Leadership Beyond the Classroom

Some of my valuable experiences have also come from being involved on campus at the University of Oklahoma. I am involved with Chi Omega. Have participated in several OU traditions and organizations. My experiences have included serving as a Homecoming Float Chair being a U‑Sing Lead and participating as a cast member in Scandals.

These experiences have taught me a lot about leadership, teamwork and responsibility. Working with groups of people requires communication organization and the ability to adapt when things do not go exactly as planned. They have also shown me that being a communicator involves listening to others just as much, as speaking.

Creating Connections That Matter

I want my work to show confidence, creativity, dependability, leadership and authenticity. Public relations lets me bring those qualities together while I keep learning about people and communication.

What excites me most about relations is the power to turn words into connection. A single message can inform someone shift a perspective strengthen a bond or shape how an organization is seen. That power of communication motivates me to grow my experience.
